LAHORE: An unprovoked shelling by Indian troops on Friday killed a man and a woman while five others were injured across Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The shelling happened in Abbaspur town located in Poonch district.
“The Indian troops started shelling at around 7am without any type of provocation” said Qazi Arsalan, an official at Abasspur police station.
In the same area, Rashida Begum an elderly women was also killed when a shell from Indian side hit her earlier this week.
The locals claimed that Pakistani troops responded to the Indian shelling in a befitting manner. However, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has not yet issued any press release on the incident.
AJK Senior Minister Chaudhry Tariq Farooq condemned the Indian shelling by saying, “Despite agreeing to maintain the spirit of the 2003 Ceasefire Agreement, Indian troops are repeatedly targeting the innocent civilian populations on the other side of the LoC, this needs serious attention by the United Nations and the international community.”
