LAHORE: Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said on Saturday that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) needs to work in an honest and impartial manner instead of expanding its realm over the army and the judiciary.
In a statement, Shehbaz said that the judiciary and army already have their own system of transparency and accountability in place.
NAB has previously failed to hold accountable all the corrupt people and looters who were involved in money laundering, it seriously needs to work more honestly and impartially, he said.
The chief minister said that a strict accountability system is required in Pakistan.
The leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the opposition in power, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) did agree in August to work on frameworks that would lead to the replacement of NAB. But so far no progress was made on this matter.
PPP, on the other hand, claimed according to the jurisdiction of the new commission that the army and judiciary must also be investigated by the commission.
